Measuring SEO — Search Console & Analytics

2 min read

You cannot improve what you do not measure

SEO is not "set and forget". You need to see what is working. Two free Google tools tell you everything you need — and they are essential.

Google Search Console — your SEO dashboard

Search Console shows how your site performs in Google search itself:

  • which keywords bring you visitors,
  • your position (ranking) for each,
  • how many people see you (impressions) vs click you,
  • crawling and indexing problems Google found,
  • and you submit your sitemap here.

This is where you discover gems like "I rank number 11 for a keyword — a small push gets me to page 1."

Google Analytics — what visitors do

While Search Console is about getting visitors, Google Analytics shows what they do after arriving:

  • how many visitors, and from where,
  • which pages they read,
  • how long they stay and where they leave.

Together: Search Console tells you how people find you; Analytics tells you what they do next.

What should I actually watch?

  • Are impressions and clicks growing over the months?
  • Which pages are your top performers (do more like them)?
  • Any keywords ranking on page 2 (positions 11–20) you can push to page 1?

Search Console = your search performance and problems. Analytics = visitor behaviour. Both free, both essential — check them regularly.
